When I was a boy I lived near the local public park and it’s boating lake. For reasons I can’t fathom I became a bit obsessed with rowing and messing about in rowing boats. It was in the late 1950’s and a chap with no interest in football needed a hobby. My little obsession remained with me until my late twenties when I rediscovered cycling. But even now when I see a rowing boat I feel like rowing off into the sunset.
